I use Microsoft Outlook in an Exchange Server environment at work, and I want to set up an autoresponder that tells people how often I check my e-mail and how to reach me for urgent matters, but I only want it to send a message to each recipient once every week or month, not every time they send me a message (I'm still trying to decide on the right frequency here). Does anyone know of a way of doing this with Outlook's rules or an add-on that has this functionality?

Otherwise, if I can't set up something like that, I am thinking that I still check my e-mail far too often to justify the use of an autoresponder (I check messages twice daily, four days a week). I'm thinking of just adding some information on my signature line, as other people here have done.

Out of Office Assistant should do the trick. For more on its configuration see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290846

At some point I had activated my autoresponder by accident.

As a result my emailserver went down due to trafic overload... all may spam got answered too!

Needless to say that this probably added to the value of my emailadress for spamming, it was one that proved to be working!

Spam filter incorrectly setup?

That creates a message with "Out of the Office" in the title. I don't want that in the title of my message, because that's not what I'm trying to convey. I don't want people to think I'm gone - I want them to think I'm there working, and too busy to be interrupted.

Don't do it! Whatever you might be thinking, it isn't correct. Improper use of an auto response is sophomoric and uncalled for spam. It is obnoxious, not a l33t h4x0r t001 of the 4HWW.

l33t h4x0r t001? Can you translate?

The title is customizable, the link I sent you was just how to set the rule, however you can make a template with whatever title you wish. The whole process is documented here: http://email.about.com/od/outlooktips/qt/et_auto_reply.htm

l337 - Slang for elite. Drop the first e, and you get something that sounds like leet, then make the e's 3's because they look like an E...

I could go on and explain the rest, but that really wasn't my point. Just because I can find an urban dictionary of '133t 5p34k' (elite speak) (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=l33t), does not mean I should use it here. The same goes with an auto responder.

Unless you aren't going to check your email for a month (or never), then don't go there. Using a tool you 'found' in the 4HWW just because you want to is not a reason to do it, and will not get you any further along at all.

Unless you have a very good reason to send out useless spam (even then, think twice), then just stay away from it. Your reasoning is not valid, and will be more detrimental than anything.

Oh my...I know I've been online too long...I understood this w/o having to even think about it. I can't write h4x0r, but can mostly read it.
:D

You do know that "elite speak" shouldn't be used anywhere and makes anyone whom does use it look like an idiot? Mainly it is a joke within the community. Autoresponders however do have a use depending on how they are used.

Autoresponders however do have a use ...

Nope. They pretty much make you look like a spammer any time they are used.

I don't think that will only send out messages once to each recipient. There is nothing in the Microsoft documentation that says rules will do that.

The Out of Office Assistant does have that functionality , but it won't let you use a Template, so you can't customize the title.

That would depend on the message and how many times it is sent. What is the difference between me sending the message 1x myself to each addy or the autoresponder doing it?

Sending an email yourself is a personal email.

Electronically generated spam is always spam.

It is the difference between something obnoxious and something that builds a relationship.

Something that builds relationships, and something that pushed people away.

If you can't figure out the difference between those two options, then you got problems buddy.

I disagree - since someone sent me an email then they are then expecting a response, right? And in many cases, isn't it actually helpful to let that person know if you are away from email or getting too many to respond to all, etc?

It is annoying when the autoresponder fires off every single time - but don't most these days only send one to each address during the period it is turned on?

Because if you and I both have an autoresponder on at the same time, wouldn't there be an infinite back and forth of auoresponders until someone turned theirs off???

I write my auto msg the same way I would write it normally if all I was doing is letting ppl know I was making a change.

Spamming is the abuse of electronic messaging systems to indiscriminately send unsolicited bulk messages....this is not unsolicited nor bulk.

You wouldn't even know I was using my auto responder the way I word it.

Also my newsletters are not personal yet they are not spam....whats the difference if worded correctly?

If you can't figure out proper use vs abuse your the one with problems. It isn't about the technology it is about how you use it.
