Just thinking....

Out loud...

I found a site recently (lulu.com) where you can make books and ebooks on an on-demand basis. It takes about a week to get the book, but I was just wondering.... obviously this could not be your full muse (selling books to create income), but maybe it could be a way to become the "expert".

There are no setup fees, etc. They just add 25% of what you want to make off the book for their profit

Say your book "costs" $7 to make, but you want to sell it for $11. That would mean $4 profit, except they would sell it for $12 and keep the dollar...

Interesting... no costs for us... anyone got any creative ideas about this?

I've always wanted to write a book. They say most people "have a book in them".

There are certainly other places that publish your book for cheap as well. I'm sure the costs go up when you start to add in your creative insight (color pictures, different layouts, etc)

I just wish that I could write. haha.

I know this sounds bad, but my book I'm writing is taking a current book, rewording it and putting my own spin on it. Dunno if this helps much, but it's what I'm doing...

I've looked at LULU before and I think it's a good option for print on demand which is what Tim writes about. Instead of spending money and ordering thousands of books it's better if you have them printed as they sell. If you can make the numbers work after you pay LULU's fee then it's an awesome setup.

You can also check with your local small printer, they might be willing to do print on demand but I doubt they would ship it for you.

very cool! I am trying to decide between this & cafepress for my report. Cafepress does not print color on the inside, but it looks like it's pretty pricey to do so at lulu (cafepress has a flat base price of $4 for all their books.) Lulu also has more of a marketplace for books. It's a neat place to look around for ideas!

Yeah, definitely a neat place for ideas. One thing I've noticed, though, is that it seems like a lot of people aren't selling a lot. I just wanted to do it to say, _______, Author of "_____ _______" is here to help you do "fill in the blank".

I dunno. Just a thought.

I forgot all about cafepress. Thanks for the reminder. :D

Here's a thought. For people producing an ebook anyway, why not offer a hard-copy option through lulu.com or cafepress? Sounds like you got nothing to lose.

offer an ebook at a bargain price
but the hardback copy with bonus and bonus can be yours for more money?

I think it's mostly a vanity thing to have a printed book, but if you're doing public speaking or a seminar it could look good to be able to sell some right there and then.
