I'm currently unemployed and need to get a little income going so that I can move forward with my testing phase of the business model I'm developing. In order for me to test one aspect of this model I will need to raise $600 and most likely give or take 50-100 due to taxes and such. I would also not mind some income just to play around with

So that being said I was thinking of just picking up some crappy ol' job at just about anywhere that is open 24/7. So that way I can work 3-4 hour shifts at very early in the morning and then have my pay + the rest of my day off to do the testing and other things.

What are your thoughts? Any other ideas as to how to raise capital?

convenience stores that have 1 person working (like avondale) will give u lots of spare time, you can read/whatever when ppl r not there, and that can add up to a lot of time.

If your a technical person, its pretty easy to get a job that pays at least $50/hour or so. If you can do that, you can put a day or two into it and then use the funds for your muse.

Depending on your skills, you could try a temp agency and tell them that you are only available for jobs that only lasted no more than a couple of days. I did that when I was trying to get ready for my wedding, moving out of my old house and getting it ready to rent and also setting up the business I am in now (very crazy few months). I told them I would take assignments that were no longer than two weeks (I had done temp work while looking for a job before and took assignemnts that were no more than two or three days). It worked out perfect for my situation as I got a temp job doing fund raising for a company and they did it in sections. I'd work for one or two weeks, go off and do my own stuff with maybe another temp job thrown in and then they would call me back for another round of fundraising. The fundraisers really liked me so if I told them in advance I couldn't make it on a particular day, they were cool with it (I ended up setting up a training program and showing them how to train new temps before I finally had to stop doing temp work).

I'm guessing you mean really short-term stuff? Where do you find it? I don't know, because I've usually looked for long-term.

Short term meaning how long?

I have had contracts that only lasted a few hours, and am now just closing up a contract that started only 5 or so months ago. Longest I have had so called "technical consultant temp work" was for an entire year; After that the IRS can make waves if they so choose so thats usually the upper limit due to the possibility of tax liability.

PM me if you need more data, but really headhunters exist for a reason and not using - notice I'm not saying "working with"; it should not be a monogamous business relationship - a recruiter if your doing temp work is about 80% more work for at least 50% less pay,at least if you know how to negotiate.

A job that can pay fairly well for a short period of time is a server/bartender at a more upscale establishment. It is not uncommon to walk from such a place with $100-$200 for a shift of 5 to 6 hours.

It may be tedious for the training period, which may last a week or two, as you are not usually tipped for this period and make a straight training wage.
