I'm curious about a few things; I've never worked with creating/designing CD's before.
1. How do I design a CD
2. How do I put the design on a CD
3. How do I put data onto a ton of CD's
4. How do I outsource 1,2 & 3
5. How much will this cost me?

I'm going to be poking around on Google but I figured I'd check here really quick. Thanks.

edit:
Here's what I came up with:
This process of low quantity CD manufacturing is known as CD Duplication.
It can cost anywhere from $.50 - $3 per CD

If anyone comes up with a reliable source for all of the above, let me know I'd really appreciate it.

Designing what exactly. Just the print on the CD, or you want to actually put some info in it, like documents, images, etc.

Designing the text/images on the front of the CD.

You can either use a specialized piece of software to create the label (SureThing is what we use here), or simply make it up on Word or a similar program.

To get the image onto the CD you have two options: either buy special paper which has stickers that you can print on and then hand apply them, or you can by a specialized printer than can print directly onto specially coated CDs. (My guess is these cost about $500, and the CDs cost about the same. I can look up details if you really want.)

To get lots of data on there you can buy small machines that do this exactly, they cost $1500 and up.

To outsource this, google low volume cd duplication. There are many companies that do this in low volume for $2-3 per piece (in sub 100 qty), more if you want them in fancy packages and on short timescales. They have all the equipment above and basically do it for you.

If you go above about 500 pieces, you need to use a different process, where the CDs are pressed in a special press. The lead on this is about 6-8 weeks, and the cost will be about 50 cents to a dollar per CD.

Sounds great thanks for the information! No I won't be wanting to do all of this myself; too much work and it's not something I'll be using to produce a high amount of income; just something to take care of a few expenses.

Hello buddy,
I actually outsourced all of the above for my muse. The graphics for the CD Cover and Discs (very pleased with the work). And I used a duplication company from the book. Found a great contact there too.

I would suggest outsourcing as much as possible. Particularly if you do not know how to do it yourself or it is just too time comsuming -just my opinion.

Cost: First keep in mind I had my graphic outsourcer do a number of things besides the Disc, CD Cover. He also did my nation wide advertisment (which took the most time). He completed that for about 1000k. With the Graphics and Disc it would be less than $200 (approx).

The DVD manufactuer is going to cost about $500 bucks for 100 CDs. I am offering 1 main DVD and 2 Bonus DVDs that come in a 2 Disc Library box.

Who are you using? I only need 12 CD's per client and I found a place to do 100 of 1 same CD for $1.54 a CD black text & $2.14 for full color.

heres an idea, why not just use ASKSUNDAY, spend a few dollars and they can locate and answer all these questions for you. LOL ..... You can outsource even finding the right people.

Sometimes I wonder if you're an asksunday sales rep or something lol. Yeah actually to tell you the truth i've been looking at them for the last half hour. I've found who to do my CD's to and such but now I have other questions about purchasing emails and what not. $20 for 10 questions. Meh they need a pay-as-you-go plan. lol
