Its funny you ask, because just blogged about this less than 30 minutes ago.
For me, there are 3 key ingredients:

Living Healthy and Being Healthy...It keeps the mind and body young and in motion
Participate in a variety of topics and activities. Go back to the things that excited you in your younger years or things you always wanted to do. For me it was do a Triathlon and a Marathon, for others it could be write a book or meditate every day. Do something that exites you!
Read about a variety of topics. I listened to a great audio clip from Tim about reading books by people that are the best in their field. It doesn't matter if it has to do with business. I agree...I read about business, science, religion, technology, economics, etc. Start thinking in terms of niches and business and your reading will start to become a great motivation machine.
Break old habits...don't do things the same way. Actively go against instinct. It is both exciting and beneficial.

Anyway, that's my input. I wrote about it here (http://www.nathanhangen.com/blog/finding-inspiration) Good Luck on your journey!

What I need to do every now and then: Make a commitment that is bigger than I feel comfortable with.

That's a good one too, get out of the comfort zone and really shed that skin.

thanks everyone for the tips and suggestions.

What I'm hearing is experiement, seek diversity and continually move out of my comfort zone.

When I look back at my life, now early fifities, its hard to believe in had once been a Canadian soldier at age 17 and then returned to my home in northern Quebec to manage and then own a wilderness fly-in hunting and fishing outpost camp. How did I go from that to becoming part of senior management in a chain store line. I think I made decisions more from neediness that from my strenght of loving independence.

I don't really know how it happened to me, how did I go from loving the wild and freedom to becoming part of the establishment. I had such a unabashed sense of pure freedom and total self confidence within that wild environment. Then I moved myself back into towns and cities and worked so much harder to trying and find the same sense of freedom and independence.

Thankfully I've Tim's book came along and a young man has help me get back on the trail I once loved so much. Again thanks everyone for your support and wisdom.

It seems to happen to the best of us...
Thanks so much for sharing your story and your struggles. I find it inspirational that you peeked your head up and have the courage to change course and follow your dreams. Sometimes we get so caught up in the current it is tough to stop the momentum.

I find that often the best place to look, is to your own childhood. What passions did yyou have as a child? Chances are good that things you liked when you were 4 or 5 years old are things that you'll be passionate about today. Did you like toy trucks? Planes? Crayons and drawing? Comic books? Baseball? Think about what it was you enjoyed best back than, and than check out those old hobbies of yours and see if any of them, still ignite passion in you today. It works for me, might work for you too.
