As to not bore everyone, I will keep this simple and to the point. Since I assume most members on this forum have laptops(just my assumption), I wanted to get feedback from you all. I am currently speculating releasing a simple product made from the soft gel material polyurethane. This would basically be a portable mat for your laptop to rest on where ever you go. It would keep your laptop from getting those nasty coffee stains or crumbs off the bottom of your laptop. I just want your plain opinion on whether you would use such an item if it were available. I would of course make this product a cool product, but I did not want to explain each and every detail. I really meant I wanted to keep this brief. So I welcome and thank you all of you in advance for taking the time to read and respond to this post. Best to everyone!!!

Cheers

I do not care about my laptop getting dirty, scratched or anything... as long as it keeps working. And I realy do not want to clutter up my laptop use more by carrying even more stuff around ;-)

I wouldn't buy it, and I really don't know any one would buy one, but I think there is some decent potential there. Think about fund raising and events. That pad could be molded with up to 4 colors, and designed with a corporate or school logo for less than $5. Then they could give them away or sell them.

You mean sort of like the soft mouse-pads, but for your computer? Sounds interesting, and a way to keep a laptop from sliding around on a slick surface.

One thing, however, I think you need to solve as a potential issue is that if this is flexible, what would the possibility be of it "flexing" up and blocking the air flow vents, creating heating issues?

Other than that, I think a good corporate tool...though to be honest a logo would be covered by the laptop, whereas a logo'd mouse pad is always visible.

When I read this description, I think of the neoprene laptop sleeves similar to this one (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8796181&type=product&id=1205538042347). I'm not sure what the difference is in a pad that you carry around to sit your laptop on and a case that you carry your laptop in and let it sit in.

If I am misunderstanding your idea, please let me know. I see them being too much in competition with an already existing product. So without further information, I will have to vote no.

Hello,

I meant that the product would be more of a gel like substance that would roll up and fit in your bag. I have gotten some interesting feedback from everyone, thank you!

He is talking about the same rubbery material used to make cellphone protectors, or think about the Macbook keyboard protectors (often called keyboard condoms).

Regarding your idea, I think people would would not pay for them, but perhaps good for promotional items as another reader said.

here is why I say people won't buy them.

1) one more thing to carry

2) might protect my laptop from dirt, but then I have to clean the bloody pad, and the gel-like substance will pick up a lot more crap than a hard plastic laptop case.

FrozenCanuck,
I see what you are saying, then.
If they are going to be such a pain to carry and clean, might they be made disposable/throw-away? This would make them more of a return purchase, as well...
