Ok, so I've kind of run out of help with a website of mine and the needs of the site are beyond my abilities, so I am wondering where the best place to find coders for either piece by piece coding or for long term partnerships?

I've found rentacoder and getafreelancer, but I wondered if there were any others some of you might recommend.

badhank? You available?

I have hired local and I've hired from forums like smf. But they code forum software. I guess finding coders has been hard so I end up doing a lot myself. I'm not a coder and I'm not great at it. I can only cut and paste and look up things. I'm not recommending that route, either.

Anyone else?

I used 2 b silent when i saw things like this, but i guess im the guy here that can help so i will.

I will also use my resources (facebook) to contact competent ppl i went to school with to see if they are interested in freelancing at all. I have had one person say yes already... lets see where this goes.

There is a difference between openly soliciting work and planting affiliate links and being part of the community with a skill people are interested in. Nobody here has violated that.

soliciting? im thinking more reluctantly agreeing lol. well im willing to work for bater/information but i cant take on huge tasks atm, and the larger task i will pass on to parties interested in the work. Seems some ppl are having a hard time finding programmers and india bumped their rates when i checked.

I'm in the same boat; I have some standard LAMP (Linux, Apache, MYSQL, PHP) projects I could do myself that I simply want to farm out, and cant find anybody.

Programmers are absolutely slammed with work these days. I have some I've used in my area and they don't even have time to return the calls. (They do email) They are so busy. I think we need more programmers.

So are many of us, from what I am seeing. The issue is not "Can it be done", its "Can it be done without using own skills and time that could be used for something else"?

And good VA coders are hard to find; Most of the ones I have seen could not code there way out of a failed malloc.. if they even check. Most don't.

Only programmers worry about code quality. Who cares if your site if made in Frontpage and coded with spaghetti PHP if it's effective.

but then again its called "code" for a reason

Frontpage wasn't effective across all browsers. It looked great in internet explorer. It was a horrid interpretation on a Mac.

Not true. While I am a coder and thus I do care about code quality, because I am a coder I also know how hard it is to work with, expand, or otherwise fix bugs in bad code.

As a person creating muses, I also don't want to worry about the expense and time waste of a code base that looks like it should be served with a side of meatballs and garlic bread. If I can be spared that nightmare, I will pay the extra buck because I know that if I ever need to rework it, reuse it, expand it, etc I can do so far easier and have it be a one time investment instead of having to pay a VA to re-invent the wheel each time.

Only somebody who is ignorant of the technical details would not worry about this issue, because in my personal experience once a non-techie type who only cares about the numbers learns of this the hard way, they *always* do what they can to prevent it from happening again... when they should have just listened to the techie in the first place and not had it happen.

Not starting because you don't have a high quality programmer might be considered a form of "analysis paralysis".

That's why I say it's better to have shitty code that works than nothing.

Use the crappy programmer to get started. Get some cash flow. Then consider hiring one of the $100/hr firms.

I think it's more important to have a good graphic designer than programmer. That aspect of a website can't be hidden.
