Hi all,
I am interested in using PayPal for my site's merchant account, however I remember seeing a restriction on PayPal regarding transferring funds, that you could only transfer $500/day from your PayPal account to your bank account.
Is this true?

it is true, but i think you can upgrade to a merchant or a business account and fix that. or you should sign up for alertpay the amount they charge for their services are cheaper than paypal. and most website and merchants use both. actually they use three (paypal, alertpay, and egold) but i heard too many stories of eGold being hacked so i only use paypal and alertpay. also, i think paypal is mostly for US based customers. if you would like to expand sometime to other customers onlines its is best to have alertpay
hope i was of some help

Hmmm.... I've got an feeling that your opinion on alertpay may just be affected by the commission you'll receive from referring people.
Here's my (non-affiliate) summary...
Paypal
I don't like Paypal because of problems I've had with them in the past keeping my money and generally being as unhelpful as possible to victims of fraud.
They do have a very simple backend system (IPN - Instant Payment Notification) for integrating with your website though and I've even ended up using them for my most recent project.
Their transaction charges are quite high starting at 3.4% + 20p (I think).
When you verify yourself and provide Paypal with more information on your business, they will lift (or at least relax) the limits on your account.
Google Checkout
Lower transaction charges (1.5% + 15p) and a nice fully-featured administration console too. There are further options to save money if you are an adwords advertiser as well.
For integrating with your website, GC is pretty simple for simply sending customers to make payment, but if you require integration with your website's backend, then it gets complicated pretty quickly.
I wanted to use GC for my most recent project but I just couldn't afford to dedicate a couple of weeks to working out how to integrate the backend stuff.
Hope that's of some use...

Well, I know that paypal is popular because people can't hide continuity types of charges in their websites.
I transfer over $500 all the time. I have clients all over the globe and that's how some of them pay me. To my bank, it takes about 3-4 days. But my bank likes the float and will milk every molecule of interest they can.
