This seems impossible and did not see any of the pics the author put in the book in the website....maybe Tim Ferriss lost also the memory on the exact numbers besides the pounds...

its water weight....

You do know that u fluctuate up to 5 lbs in a day depending on what you eat and drink, right? This is without doing anything out of the regular. Intentional dehydration can easily reach that mark within reason... its works as a %, so a 110lbs guy certainly wont loose 28 (well he could but he might die), but a 180-190 can easily do it

My first day of wrestling practice in 7th grade, I went from 115 lb to 105 lb in three hours. The next day I was back up to 110 lb. After three weeks I stabilized right around 100lb.

So 28 lb in 18 hours? Yeah, extreme. But not impossible.

I gained more than 12 pounds in a day, when I accidentally overdosed a water retention medicine. The next day I took a diaretic in a panic and lost 10 of the pounds. This was without any planning or intention... I am sure I could do more with some forethought.

heh heh.. Long story short, I am a hemophiliac. I was having a bleed in my ankle and I "borrowed" a nasal inhaler (DDAVP is used to to reduce bleeding, among other things) from my Uncle, who is a hemophiliac as well. Normally I go get injections of Factor VIII... I wanted to try the inhaler and see if it would work for me. My Uncle neglected to give me the dosage information and I thought he told me to do 2 shots up each nostril.

DDAVP is also used to curb bed wetting. It does this by absorbing the water into your body instead of allowing it to simple go out as urine. I did not know this use... Needless to say I drink a lot of water throughout the day.

By the end of the day, my muscles were cramping up from the bloating of water in them.

(:

Lesson learned...

lol im sure theres a great story you are leaving out

I can also identify. I've been restricting my carbs the past month or so and recently took up weightlifting. On a whim I decided to "load" on creatine (even though they say it's not necessarily necessary) one day. My weight went up 6 pounds in 24 hours. Turns out creatine also helps the body retain water, especially if taken in amounts more than a tsp a day.

Is Tim exaggerating a little? Maybe, but I also know that on my restricted carbs plan in a few weeks I went from my high weight of 207 down to 189, without exercise. Now I'm at 188 and LOOK stalled. I've flushed out all that bloated water weight and now it's time for the serious fat loss.

Don't restrict yourself too much if you are lifting heavy. Creatine will help your muscles retain water, but at the expense of the rest of your body, which means you have to drink more water. Anyway, even if the original weight loss mentioned in the book is true, I don't think it is healthy...but then again that may not be the point.

I'm on something called the Anabolic diet - where your body burns fat for energy instead of carbs. I gain 4-8 lbs on the weekends and it goes away by Tuesday. Totally normal.
