I have an idea for a "nostalgia" type website. I would like to set it up on the order of YouTube, where anyone can post content - video, photos, essays, etc. However, I am completely clueless about setting up a website (and most other things as well!).

I have a name in mind that looks to be available, but I have not taken any steps to register it.

I haven't figured out how to make it worthwhile financially - perhaps w affiliate advertising.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Frank

check out drupal at www.drupal.org this open source package may fullfill all your needs.
You will also need a ftp program. there are quite a few good open source options, I use cyberduck.

If a name you like is available register it immediately. Also, I'd register similar variations of the name as well in case your site becomes popular, so you can try to at least limit the copy cat websites from having similar names. It only cost a few dollars to register a domain per year, which is well worth it.
