Anyone here done this for a muse?
if so please enlighten us about the following

-what resolution did you shoot @?
-did u use $300 futureshop "dvd quality" digital vid camera, hire a pro video person, or borrow a friends decent/high end cam?
-did you use the audio off the cam, set up a mic, overlay separate audio?
-how long was it
-pop & play or menu's (if menu's what tools did u use?)
-did you include a workbook/info in hard copy?
-burn the copies urself or get a pro to do it
-what would you have done differently

I have 3 potential, 1 my hobby/specialty, 1 my fathers specialty, and 1 a friends specialty, i have not decided if i wanna tackle it all at once get my feet wet with one first. I hope some1 with experience will help me and others looking to do this get a smart start.

Hey, Im in the process of creating a DVD. I paid a friend of mine who shoots professional commercials couple of hundred bucks, we got about 2 hrs of footage.
You generally use the boom mic on the camera for audio recording but can do voice overs later on a separate system. I will have the editing done by this guy cause he can do it professionally.
Im thinbking about burning a batch of copies to start with, although that mightbe really time consuming. Will see.
I'd say write a script about everything you are going to say and rehearse it well. Don't just do things off the top of your head. When you are on camera you feel a certain prerssure to perform and screw ups do happen plus you might forget important things you want to cover. Unless you have a friend with an HD camera and editing skills, expect to pay a lot for a professional video. But then again it depends. If you are just going to sit in front of a camera and talk without having to move around, change scenery, etc. it should be pretty straight forward.

The key to this project is fun. Go look at you tube for some simple ideas. I too am in the process on doing a professional DVD. I posted to craigslist and got 2 very good resources on the East cost. My web guy is also going to take a whack at it.

What few clips I have done are over on my site. Everyone I have spoken with about creating a "professional" DVD have said one thing - KEEP it REAL. Be authentic. Have fun.

Remember some short, authentic clips on your site can be very persuasive. Just look at Tim's stuff and his clip on elance.

Have fun,
Shawn

Not to hijack the thread (and I'll start a new one if needbe), but how do you advertise or search on Craigslist on a wide-scale/national basis without having to visit EACH city's subdomain?

but has anyone ever seen the show "how its made" where they film a factories operations and then voice dub over it? i thought that came across rather smart, and if i can get morgan freeman to do the narration, cha-ching!

The voice over needs to be recorded with a microphone and recorded onto a multitracking software such as Audition, ProTools, etc. You can get the demo version of N-Track from fasoft.com which will pretty much work for you. You will need a better quality microphone, etc. But my advic to you is find someone with a home studio in your area and book several hours where you just do the voice overs. Save the files in 48Hz, 16 bit format (ask the engineer about that format because that is the format used for DVD and TV broadcast, as opposed to 44Hz, 16 bit for a CD, its too complicated to get into this now). The audio files that you created will then be added onto the video that was shot as a voiceover. But you will need to get someone who knows how to edit video.

You have to do each city. And you have to make the ad different, too.

As far as making a script. Like Anton suggested, it's a must. Even the reality shows have a script. Even things you don't think have a script and seem ad lib do. I know because I have written them. (Not for reality shows. I refuse!)
