Hi. I have the audiobook. However, what does a person like myself do when I work for the Federal Government, have a mortgage and children? It seems like I am stuck and I don't want to be. Any suggestions?

how is your job any different to tim's working as a tele-sales person?
i.e tell us how your job disqualifies you and we'll find another work around :)

cheers.

i work for a government contractor job as well. much of tim's ideas on how to escape the work place do not apply simply because i cannot work from home, ever. i will never be able to remote login to my computer at work due to security protocals. So my thoughts are... if you have a mortgage and a family to worry about it's time to get a new job that does not have these restrictions.

In the mean time, I'm able to work on my muse while keeping the security of my horrible job. Worst case scenario: if my muse fails, I'll at least have a real working portfolio to freelance and escape.

best of luck, keep us up to date if you find a better solution

Quit your job.

Irish Princess - you sound like your mind is inside of a tiny little box that you somehow don't seem to be able to think outside of. No offiense seriously, but FIND SOME NEW BELIEFS because ones like "I am stuck" really suck.

First - your job is not a jail cell. You are free to leave it.

Second - you may have downtime at work that you can use to build your muse on government time. This suddently turns your crappy job into a wonderful paid opportunity to build a muse.

Those are a few starers for you on new beliefs. Get cracking and if you really want to commit yourself to changing the way you think, post your reply on your new beliefs here.

I agree with what Canuck is saying there, especially the point about building your muse AT WORK.

I have friends in provincial government who are now full time union workers and have very little to do. They go for multiple 30-45 min coffee breaks a day and then a 2hr lunch.

By sitting behind you desk working on your muse you may actually LOOK like a better worker and get a few perks. Not a lot since I assume that senority is more important, but you get the drift

Government and large corps are great at sucking souls. Like we say around the office, the Utility is where Engineers go to die.

I understand the goverment job problem. Being that I'm currently in the Army, I certainly cannot quit. However, every day I motivate myself to try and create enough income to where I'll never need a job when I am able to leave this one.

My only concern is deployment, which pretty much kills business.
