ok guys

i have recently designed a product which i think can be my muse. i would like to either make it myself (with enought funding) and to start my own company, or to get someone else to buy rights to make it with royalties.

My issue is with copyright. It's the design that i think is going to rock, and the problem is, it's not going to be difficult to copy. Look at the ipod for example - many other companies create similar products. But the ipod still wins, but they also have alot of money to back them up. The concept and technology have been used but my idea and design is WAY superior to anything on the market right now.

How should I proceed? How can i protect my 'design' and 'idea' before moving onto licensing or getting someone else to sell it? Are there actual places that i can have this done for cheap?

can anyone help me with links etc so that i can get this idea into action?

thanks!

You might want to look into the below site (from the Resources page in the book owners section) - it sounds to me what you are thinking about is a patent, but those are very very expensive and still may not protect you if it is not written well. Or, you could go ahead with the confidence that yours is always the highest quality, with the risk of people copying...

Licensing Ideas to Others for Royalties:

InventRight (www.inventright.com) (800) 701-7993
Stephen Key is the most consistently successful inventor I’ve ever met, with millions in royalties from companies like Disney, Nestle, and Coca-Cola. He is not high-tech but specializes in creating simple products, or improving on existing products, and then licensing (renting) his ideas to large corporations. He comes up with the idea, files a provisional patent for less than 0, and then lets another company do the work while he collects checks. This site introduces his fail-proof process for doing the same. His techniques for cold-calling alone are invaluable. Highly recommended.

I would seriously question manufacturing the product yourself if you're interested in achieving freedom.
