View Full Version : Testing my Wine-muse
I posted a threat on my muse-creation-idea on wine and foods not long ago. I got som great responds and thx for that! And now I'm in the process of writing an eBook a long and time consuming process. I am very optimistic :)
However, I've begun to think about how to approach the testing part of my muse creation as I am new to the whole PPC and adword-world. There are many threads and tips in here on the subject, but not really for newbies. Do any have a "How to PPC-testing / PPC testing for dummies" or can lead me to any beginner's sites?
Thank you - and I cant wait to submit my wine-site and hear your comments/critique.

The first place that you should go is
http://www.google.com/adwords/learningcenter/
They have a lot of good information there. The thing that you have to do when starting is to test, test, test. Make sure that before you know what you are doing keep your daily limit low and only have campaigns run for a short time. Then check the results, how are they looking? Are you getting the right traffic for your niche? Where is the traffic coming from?
Then tweak, add negative words, add longtail (strings that are searched for), define the type of traffic that you want. Until you can define the traffic you don't want to be paying for crap.
If you're book is on picking expensive wine, you don't want people clicking your ads on college forums as they are only looking for the cheap jugs and don't have the cash for your product.
Hope that helps you get started.

Thx Bluenoser
That IS a great link. I'll study it closer. You also write that you use negative adword. What do you mean by that, and can you give some examples?
I'm concidering buying Perry Marshall's The Ultimate Guide to Google Adwords. Can any recommend it?

Negative words are words you add to a search phrase that indicate you don't want your ad to show up if the words are included. For example if your site sells organic food, then you would want the search phrase organic food to show your ad; you would not however want the search phrase organic dog food to show your ad, as it is not relevant. you would therefore add the negative words -dog -cat -pet, etc to your list.

Exactly, you add the words that you don't want to be considered. So if you are only selling something that would interest people searching for red wine then you would add negative words for everything else ie: "-white"
If you use Google Analytics, or another good tracking software, you will be able to tell what actual keywords are converting and which are a waste of money. So you will be able to use the 20:80 and put negative words for 80% of the worst performing.
I have some free ebooks on my other computer that I got when I signed up for some newsletters (great list generation method) and will forward you the links.
Cheers,
Thx everybody for your comments. Sounds really nice, bluenoser. Pls do send the ebooks to me. That would be really cool! :D
