Hi everyone,
Well I quit my job a month and a half ago, actually independently of reading Tim's book, which I read on the beach in Mexico a week after leaving a biG internet company which I had been at for a while, but hated.

Now...I feel like I have some great opportunities for travel, but I'm a bit of a stresscase by nature and have trouble choosing and planning travel. Always interested in Central/latin america, but not sure I want to devote a month somewhere and get an apartment.

Anyone with any experience traveling to those regions have any tips, at all, whatsoever? Like...where to go, specifically, and how to plan (orbitz? just wing it and go to hostels? etc.).

Kinda interested in belize, costa rica, peru, argentina, brazil, but for no real significant reasons so if someone has any other suggestions... :)

thanks!

Welcome to the boards! I have to know, are you a bit Sakamoto Ryoma fan or something? What is with that choice of name?

For travel advice, you only need google. Try and trim down those ideas, and then shoot for what is left. Kinda interested in Central America is a pretty broad place to start.

If you are interested in going cheaply, sign up for a time share 'infomercial', you spend a half day getting the big sell from the time share people and take a cheap cruise to the Bahamas for a few days. I did that once in college.

You could always use a set of dice to choose your next location, or work your way South, or some other way of allocating where you want to go. No need to get an apartment, depending on location. Perhaps youth hostels are available, etc.

Satsuma - I was thinking about this post all day and then it hit me. Go back and read the book. Page 51 in particular. You don't need an answer to the question you asked, only a better question.

Also...take a look at the Lonely Planet guide books...originally titled as 'Africa on a shoestring', these take an economy approach to traveling. I found these useful while I was in the Peace Corps and had some time to move about.
