I had a question about the phrase in the text 'five groups of 10 search terms each' at the bottom of page 172. Can anyone elaborate on what that means? This is the actual text:

In Sherwood's case, he creates five groups of 10 search terms each. The following are two of his ads.

SAILOR SHIRTS FROM FRANCE
French Quality, Shipped from U.S.
Lifetime Guarantee!
www.shirtsfromfrance.com

REAL FRENCH SAILOR SHIRTS
French Quality, Shipped from U.S.
Lifetime Guarantee!
www.shirtsfromfrance.com

Johanna creates the same five groups of ten terms each and tests a number of ads…

Thanks for your help.

Sam

Tim is referring to the google adwords system, and how each of these two examples used the PPC(pay per click) system to setup their advertising. If you go to http://adwords.google.com , you can get a good idea of what you can do with adwords.

When he says they setup "'five groups of 10 search terms each", he means they setup up five seperate adwords groups, each group having 10 different search terms. So for the first sailor shirts ad, he may have chosen 10 search terms similar to -->> 'french shirts','shirts from france','french sailor shirts',etc each of these being one of the ten search terms.

From what I can tell, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this, the reason you create more than one group of search terms(in their case five groups) is so that you can track the click-through rate of the groups individually, so that you know which terms you should put all your money on.
