NOBNOM Winners and Other Updates

2997901439_a32aaa07d5

2008 pic, RV breakdown en route to Burning Man. Shit happens, but that’s OK.

Ladies and gents!

A few updates:

1) If you missed instructions for the three quick-start videos from Tony Robbins, or his morning breathing routine and Cryotherapy, I’ve added the links here.

2) I’m so very sorry for the delay in announcing NOBNOM prize winners.  Many of you have rightly asked: What the hell, Ferriss?  Why the radio silence?

To that, I answer: Mea culpa. Alas, I simply get my ass kicked sometimes. This time around, a few things happened:

1) Lyme disease completely annihilated my health, which led to strong antibiotics for 8+ weeks, which…

2) Produced side-effects (on top of Lyme) that disrupted my digestion, created “food allergies,” and additional hospital visits.

3) The data set was huge! You guys asked and answered 1,000s of questions. It was amazing but exceeded all expectations. To organize and analyze everything took a while.  There is a fun wrap-up post in the works that will discuss the fascinating patterns and findings.

To try and atone for my tardiness, I’m adding $100 to all the prizes, so $600 (instead of $500) to the grand-prize winners, and $200 (instead of $100) to all of the others.  I know it’s nominal, but please accept my apologies.

If you won — names below! — please email Tony at tony at lift dot do (@lift.do).  He will also attempt to reach out to you, and you can also ping him on Twitter at @tonystubblebine.

Now, to the good stuff…

How did we choose these folks, who are they, and who else did an amazing job?  Here are all the juicy details from Tony Stubblebine, CEO of Lift.  Out of the 5,000+ participants…

Enter Tony

Here are criteria I used… Looking to award the most “worthy” participants, I looked at streaks, answers, helpfulness of answers, and a little bit of judicial-license. To even be in the running, you had to have finished the month on a 31-day streak and left at least 100 answers for others. So, the bar was very high. Here are the three who stood out as worthy of an award:

Dennis Corsi ($600) – Received 351 helpful votes on his answers.

https://lift.do/users/867ed2f27c23ce1c199b

Brad B. ($600) – Received 391 helpful votes on his answers.

https://lift.do/users/364e6657ee8483603b86

Natasha Lynn ($600) – Received 327 helpful votes on her answers.

https://lift.do/users/3d63505de07ed9156bb2

We also offered $100 awards for people who fell off the wagon and got back on. These people finished the challenge on a streak of 20 or less, and were helpful in the Q&A.

Kuldeep Singh (now $200). https://lift.do/users/911752757306b3dcc17c

Ruben Gutierrez (now $200). https://lift.do/users/34db29a0da5602fc6ed3

Nick Hammond (now $200). https://lift.do/users/d9ebdb738ab7b1242c5a

Tommy Sarac (now $200). https://lift.do/users/7cfa47b88c66219a10c4

D M (now $200).  https://lift.do/users/11c424e6420d32e06da9

[TIM NOTE: Huge congratulations to everyone who participated in NOBNOM!]

Dennis and Brad (among the top-3 prize winners) both left more than 400 answers, which is insane. Natasha built up a fan club; I think because she gave a ton of props. So, while she left fewer answers, she got more helpful votes on those answers.

Here are some of the many people we considered, who all kicked ass.  Each and every one deserves a round of applause.

$500 Prize Candidates. They all finished with 31-day streaks

I love your podcast and have listened to almost every single one of them since 2014. One thing I do not understand is why you say “hello ladies and germs.” Instead of germs, why not something positive and empowering?

Sorry to hear about your Lyme disease.

Hopefully your cocktail of antibiotics 2 months will get you rid of it definitely.

No advice to give you cause I’m sure you’re already in hands of best doctors you chose very carefully.

Good luck.

P.S. Your ep. 1 and 2 with Tony Robbins were absolutely fantastic.

I already listened twice each.

And thanks for show notes with written questions and even with their chronology.

I have dream of finding time to just put together all, I mean really all questions you asked during your yet 38 episodes of podcasts.

Your questions are adapted to variety of your guests profiles, and that’s exactly what I would like to study with a look to the whole picture and 600-700 questions you asked.

Many many thanks for your works, time and the will you put to share all these with us, and unbelievable you do it for free people shouldn’t forget.

Get well soon 😉

Thanks Tim, for the not-so-easy challenge. While listening to your interview with Ramit Sethi, you inluded to the idea that you’re considering doing a course or experience(a rigourous one, no-less) on taking something like the slow-carb diet and testing the adhereance rate on 1000-2000 people.

Was this a pre-cursor to test engagement on such an idea?

Sorry to hear you got Lyme disease. A few friends of mine recently found out they had Lyme disease as well. I can help with the food allergies. My company has been detecting food allergies and food intolerances for 37 years. Please email me so we can expedite the test kit and give you the insights to further improve your diet and get you to optimal health.

Tim,

Perhaps you would benefit from consulting the following Doctors about lymes disease:

http://oneradionetwork.com/health/steven-hines/

And

http://oneradionetwork.com/health/dr-richard-horowitz-why-cant-i-get-better-solving-the-mystery-of-lyme-and-chronic-disease-november-25-2013/

These people will help you restore your health faster and nip this is the bud.

I hate to see you suffer as long as others have with this condition. (watch “under our skin”, a lyme documentary).

All the best,

Thanks Tim Ferris, Natasha Lynn and everyone who made me a winner! You people have almost got my habit changed. This challenge has influenced my behaviour a lot. It made me look beyond my procrastination and has made me more pro-active now. I found that when you talk to people, you get better insights, which in turn changes your outlook towards yourself. Sometimes, people don’t ask for help and they keep on doing the same thing over and over. You people and this challenge provided that sort of help.

Tim, sorry to hear about your disease. However, I believe you will get better. Let us know how we can contribute to make things better for you.

Sorry to hear about your illness. For the same time period I had similiar issues- a small procedure got infected, antibiotics gave me c diff, and I am a very healthy guy. Hoping the last round worked, or else its off to the poop pills or fecal transplant (now THERE is a podcast topic!). Thanks for exposing me to Tony Robbins, esp the part where he talked about the misconceptions out there, which I definitely had until this podcast. Now I am on the book pre-order.

Stay strong brother

Hey Tim,

Thanks for the updates of the Robbins interview. I’m really loving the whole podcast series. You have a great skill for picking people who will have appeal across the board regardless of their speciality in life. I now actively anticipate each new episode, so I hope you’re able to continue it for a long time.

I’d forgotten about the lime disease when I posted my last comment, so I hope that you’re improving in leaps and bounds.

Take care mate, and keep on keeping on

Tim – This challenge was eye-opening. One of those “my baseline for ___ years has been totally f***ed” moments. We’d really love to hear more about the emotional and physical changes you yourself experienced on NOBNOM, and whether it’s worth doing for long-term health!

Tim – depends on how quickly you got the antibiotics as to whether 8 weeks will do it. Lyme is a tough disease. There are co-infections that can persist. Some antibiotics are better than others (wider spectrum). Don’t ignore – and keep a journal of – *any* lingering or new symptoms, no matter how seemingly insignificant or sporadic. It’s not your imagination. My husband was sick for five years. No positive test. The tests are wildly unreliable. Abx for months. Finally cured with a homeopathic regime. Check out the movie “Under Our Skin” and the book “Cure Unknown.” Good luck.

I personally contracted Lyme around the time you did. Had I not heard you mention the “bulls eye” bite mark on the Random Show, I would have stupidly ignored my symptoms. I’d like to see a post on your experience with Lyme Disease and how you recovered. I am taking “Bio K” probiotics daily following 3 weeks of Doxycycline. Luckily, I haven’t had any adverse effects and the antibiotics seemed to have worked. However, I’d like to know what to look out for the in the future and what tests I should have done. In Canada, Lyme Disease is taken very lightly and the testing is ineffective. Any insight you could provide on the subject would be helpful. Take care and NOLD (No Lyme Disease) on.

I also successfully completed the NOBNOM challenge, and I actually went a full 34 days, because I had started 3 days early. It was a funny coincidence actually, because I had done the challenge for a month, 2 months prior to you taking it up yourself, and I was writing a short ebook on the benefits of it myself. My objective was fat loss, and I was combining NOBNOM, cold showers, intermittent exercises, and ZMA and BCAA’s to produce my desired results. I was also experimenting with wet-daydreaming, but it’s probably getting a bit TMI if I go there, haha. Alas, all was a success for me. Cheers for the competition, and I hope you do more of these in the future Tim!

I’ve got chronic Lyme disease and have suffered more than 2 years. It’s mostly why I ended up with your book, (4HWW). Between our difficult adoption and Lyme disease our time, money and energy is in the deficit. It’s pretty much muse or die in so many ways. I have plenty of ideas but with a $3-4K deficit each month, I fear I lack the time to launch something. Do you know where I could find a muse business for sale? Is that a good idea?

This is a bit related to the top of your post. Today I did my first cryotherapy session (cryosauna) for almost 3 minutes at -126 degrees Celsius. It was fucking insane.

It’s worthless to point out how cold can have an impact on our bodies, especially when it comes to inflammation. So yea, if you guys have the opportunity, go ahead and do it.

Many elite athletes do it. And it may have a very positive impact on your sexual life as well. Imma put up a blogpost in the following days about my cryo session

Tim Tim,

Since you don’t have Maria’s podcast up yet, and I don’t have a twitter I am posting my response to your question here.

I was looking around doing some research with my extra time and I have a theory on how Maria went from so little followers to 2 million.

So, she has a lot of followers and backlinks already. She produces amazing content and is a very trusted source for Google. So, she ranks at numero uno for the keyword: “brain.” You’ve had a brilliant filmmaking guest come on very early in the Tim Tim Talk Show, whom has his own show on Nat Geo, Brain Games!

Brain Games has all these interactive games, on Nat Geo, to encourage their fans to use as they watch the show or to dig a little bit deeper into the content. My guess is that people were searching for “Brain Games” and “Brainpickings” came up as the first bet. If that person hit “I’m feeling lucky” then they would be auto directed to brainpickings.org and from there the could’ve fallen in love with the content. Can’t forget pareto’s take on search results, 75% in top 5 and 80% of that go to the top 3. Maria is number one, thus gets lots of clicks through that organic keyword she has come to own.

Cheers,

Mickey

Hi Tim,

I just wanted to say thanks for giving me the opportunity to take part in the NOBNOM challenge.

I am very grateful for the prize, but I am more grateful for how this challenge has kick-started a series of positive lifestyle changes, and has opened up opportunities to give back as a Lift coach.

To be perfectly honest, the past 2 weeks has seen me slip up on practically every habit I built since NOBNOM (including NOBNOM). Of course, no one is perfect, and I’m not going to beat myself up over it.

However, I’m more determined than ever to get back on track. The results were just too good for me to allow them all to slip away.

So as a way to say thanks, and to hold myself publicly accountable, I’m officially embarking on another 30-day challenge (NOM only this time, as I am meeting my newlywed best friend in Thailand in 2 weeks!).

So thanks again Tim and the Lift team!

I still not sure why I decided to attempt this challenge. I’ve been clean and sober over 4 year so the booze was normal, but the masterbation a new challenge. Most stressful month of my life, but ended with one heck of a story. On day 28 I got intimate with a partner and what a release.

Really rare find and worth the read: A quote from the great thinker and author C.S. Lewis on the topic.

” I agree that that the stuff about ‘wastage of vital fluids’ is rubbish. For me the real evil of masturbation would be that it takes an appetite which, in lawful use, leads the individual out of himself to complete (and correct) his own personality in that of another (and finally in children and even grandchildren) and turns it back: sending the man back into the prison of himself, there to keep a harem of imaginary brides.

And this harem, once admitted, works against his ever getting out and really uniting with a real woman. For the harem is always accessible, always subservient, calls for no sacrifice or adjustments, and can be endowed with erotic and psychological attractions which no real woman can rival.

Among these shadowy brides he is always adored, always the perfect lover: no demand is made on his unselfishness, no mortification is ever imposed on his vanity. In the end, they become merely the medium through which he increasingly adores himself.

Do read Charles Williams’ Descent into Hell, and study the character of Mr. Wentworth. And it is not only the faculty of love which is thus sterilized, forced back on itself, but also the faculty of imagination.

The true exercise of imagination, in my view, is (a) To help us to understand other people (b) To respond to, and, some of us, to produce art. But it has also a bad use: to provide for us, in shadowy form, a substitute for virtues, successes, distinctions, et cetera which ought to be sought outside in the real world — e.g., picturing all I’d do if I were rich instead of earning and saving.

Masturbation involves this abuse of imagination in erotic matters (which I think bad in itself) and thereby encourages a similar abuse of it in all spheres.

After all, almost the main work of life is to come out of our selves, out of the little, dark prison we are all born in. Masturbation is be avoided as all things are to be avoided which retard this process. The danger is that of coming to love the prison.”

(-C.S. Lewis, from the book that is a collection of his letters entitled: “Yours, Jack”, pp 292-293).
