Random and Fun Announcements: Keynote with Mike Shinoda, Inc. 500, Madrid Party, More…

Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park: more than 50 million albums and counting. (Photo: norrelb)

Rather than sprinkle these announcements around, I figured I’d just load up one post. Hope to bump into some of you at one of these!

Keynote with Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park in Las Vegas

I’ll be doing an opening keynote with Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park fame at BlogWorldExpo in Las Vegas, Sept. 21st at 9am. Hosted with Rohit Bhargava of Ogilvy Worldwide, it’s going to be a blast. Here’s what we’ll be covering…

Learn what it takes to create You, Inc. — whether for yourself or a company — online and offline in a crowded world. What are the right and wrong (and best) ways to get attention? What are the most important decisions? Where do blogs fit in, and are they ideal or outdated? How do you parlay “internet fame” into major media?

I’ll be taking a ton of notes at this conference. Lots of heavy hitters will be in attendance to share their experiences with blogging, monetization, PR, etc.. Here is code you can use for 20% off registration: 4HVIP

Inc. 500 Speaking with Inc. and Fast Company Editor-in-Chief

Prior to Vegas, I’ll be speaking Sept. 19th at 3:30pm in DC with John Koten, CEO and editor-in-chief of Mansueto Ventures (Inc. and Fast Company magazines), at the Inc. 500 Conference. Here is a sample of what we’ll cover in our fireside chat:

Called the “Indiana Jones for the digital age,” Ferriss is author of the #1 New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller, The 4-Hour Workweek. He has become almost as famous for his use of social media to rocket his book to bestseller status as he is for the book itself.

Find out the back-story to his book, what he wished he had included, and why he thinks technology such as email, instant messaging and PDAs complicate life rather than simplify it. Still have burning questions? The second half of the session will be dedicated to an interactive Q&A period.

I’m hoping to meet a number of the speakers, including Jim Collins (Good to Great) and Elon Musk (PayPal, Tesla Motors, etc.). Bill Clinton spoke last year, and there should be some fantastic sessions.

The 4-Hour Workweek Home: Now in 3-D

My house, where I wrote 4HWW, is on the market! Check out the virtual tour here. Search MLS Number 80825680 on www.mlslistings.com if that doesn’t work. The zebra print carpet isn’t mine, but I’m willing to include the best bed ever built (just look at the frame!).

4HWW Madrid Party in Two Weeks — Sept. 25th!

Por fin! On Thursday, September 25th, I’ll be hosting a blow-out 4HWW party in Madrid. Tickets are free and limited to the first 150. Better to register earlier rather than later, as the London and Sydney parties both “sold out” in less than a week. If you’re in Spain or nearby, come over and have some Rioja red with me.

Here’s where you should RSVP: http://4hwwmadrid.eventbrite.com/

Any suggestions for cool locations that can hold 150 people?

The Tim Ferriss Show is one of the most popular podcasts in the world with more than one billion downloads. It has been selected for "Best of Apple Podcasts" three times, it is often the #1 interview podcast across all of Apple Podcasts, and it's been ranked #1 out of 400,000+ podcasts on many occasions. Hi Tim,

I have been following your blog with interest and describing my own thoughts about having a personal assistant, etc. on my blog.

I know you mentioned you are moving…where are you headed? I live in San Jose, too, but I’m pretty sure I’ll be moving to San Diego early next year.

Hey Tim,

Slightly off topic but here goes.

What are your thoughts on McCain not knowing how to email?

Is he less evolved because of it?

Or is he somehow more evolved?

Tough call.

I do like the fact that he has other people deal with it.

Tim Ferriss
Tim Ferriss

Hi Guys,

To your two questions:

-McCain not knowing how to e-mail (or choosing not to): I don’t mind this at all. I judge him, and others, by results and not methods. There are quite a few brilliant CEO who still have their assistants print out their email. I don’t think it matters, laugh as some might, and it quite likely keeps the static and distraction to a minimum.

-Where am I headed? I plan to split my time among NYC, Buenos Aires, and SF. All wonderful places.

All the best,

Tim

It’s on Sept. 25th, not October 24th. Big difference.

Madrid party! Woo-hoo! 😀

As soon as I found out that 4HWW was already out in Spanish, I’ve been recommending it and giving it as a present.

I’m still trying to find a way to incorporate the teachings of your book into my music career. It was great to see that my friend Derek Sivers was so profoundly affected by the book too! 🙂

I’m off to hunt for plane ticket and hotel…

Hey Tim,

Your home in Willow Glen:

Virtual tour is not up (it seams that link is broken now at 8:53 AM PST). Also, a suggestion to Carlos Padilla – I would offer a full 3% commission (or higher) to buyer’s agents if you want to move it fast. I live “around the corner”, off Foxworthy, and know the market and area well (Std. disclaimer: If your home is currently listed with an agent outside of Montalvo Realty Saratoga, this is not meant to be a solicitation).

I would also use your name + 4HWW as a marketing tool… Have him call me – I can give him some great tips and help you and Carlos sell it fast… He can Google my name for my contact info.

I wish I could make it to your Madrid party – Patatas bravas would go great with Rioja. There is a great tapa bar near Puerta Del Sol called Las Bravas (it is a chain, but they have great tapas). Well, maybe next time.

I love your book man. It changed my life.

I’ll stay in touch. Cheers.

I am rather hoping the person to purchase your home uses money they have made from the 4HWW. I even recognized the kitchen from “Beating the Morning Rush: The 3-minute “Slow Carb” breakfast.

It would be amazing if you could include some sort of video from the BlogWorldExpo similar to your “The Philosophies of Work: A Conversation with Derek Sivers of CD Baby”, I received a lot of insight from that one and I’m sure everyone else would appreciate it too! Thanks Tim!

Hey Tim,

Looking forward to finally getting to meet you next weekend in Vegas!

I was excited too when I read that Mike Shinoda will also be doing a keynote as I think he has done some amazing things during his career and I love Linkin Park.

I know you’re speaking on Friday at the Inc. event but are you going to be in Vegas that night to attend the TechSet party?

See you next weekend!

Hi Tim,

I have read your book and it has inspired me. If you are coming down to Australia I would like to offer you the hospitality of my home. My family and I live at Sanctuary Cove in Queensland and we have a very surreal lifestyle. We live in a gated community with a marine village a buggy ride away. So when you want to go for coffee you can head down to your local cafe either by boat or by buggy. I would like your adivce re an idea for generating a million dollars for a charity here in Australia called The Starlight Foundation – Make a Wish program. I would really appreciate your input. Thank you for helping me to THINK BIG and go for the things that really matter

Hi Tim

This post is totally unrelated, however I was hoping that you will see this.

One of the challenges in your book was to contact a “celebrity”. I decided that I was going to try and contact you.

You have stated in one of your threads to contact you via Twitter. I just set up an account and became one of your followers because I dont know the program enough to do much else.

Care to asisst me in completing the challenge??

Hi Tim:

I got laid off in July and figured it was time to rethink who I am. So what did I do? Flew to Buenos Aires having booked a hotel for three days. By the end of the hotel stay I was set up in a nice apartment in Palermo. I chose BA for reasons different than yours, but have found it to be as exciting as you describe. I just got back from skiing the Andes and am looking forward to exploring more areas around BA.

For this first mini-retirement I am staying about three months and beginning to work on two muses so I can keep this (very nice) lifestyle going.

Thanks to my friend, Anil Dham, for recommending your book (he wants the credit for the recommendation). For me it has been a game changer.

All the best.

Hi Tim,

4HWW was the perfect read for my ferry rides while island-ing in Greece a few weeks ago. Loved how you are spelling out what I’ve been doing for years now…I don’t have your refined tecnicques in place yet, but have been vagabonding the world from Vietnam to Guatemala and everywhere else in between…I do have a 9-5 job and a not so big bank account but it has never gotten in the way of my policy of at least a two weeks trip every two months and 3 week-ends away per month (anything from surfing in Biarritz to sand dunes play in Sahara).

Loved the ideas in the book, is great to learn how I can it all to the next level and start making the 9-5…shrink;)

Would love to make it to Madrid (just the thought of Rioja alone and I’m sold!) it’s only a couple of hours away from Luxembourg where I am, but I’m off to Munich for a bit if Oktoberfest fun that week.

Let me know if you plan (or better yet, start planning now!) to have a party in Luxembourg, or just to pass by in one of your European travels…would love to host you and show you the place (pretty cool place, and I was just bragging above about having seen my share of cool places;) )

!Que disfrutes de la fiesta en Madrid!

Hi Tim,

I can´t believe you´re coming to Madrid and I won´t see you! I live in Madrid but am away until the 29th of September – such a shame as I would´ve really liked to meet you.

I have included some suggestions below. I think the first 5 in particular would be ideal. I´m assuming you have an outsourced battalion of organisers, but I would be happy to help you plan the event if you like.

Here are some suggestions:

Penthouse – stunning terrace in the centre of Madrid with a beautiful view (http://www.memadrid.travel/ThePenthouse.html)

Ananda – pretty nightclub with a large terrace near Atocha (http://www.ananda.es/)

Fortuny – terrace and restaurant, outdoor part is lovely (http://www.palacetefortuny.com/eventos.html)

Moma – several different sized tapas bars

Lateral – v popular tapas chain, with an attractive decor. I´d recommend the Arturo Soria Plaza one because it has a terrace and an area for drinks. (http://www.cadenalateral.es/index.html)

Reina Bruja – popular for events, they can modify the lighting etc (http://www.reinabruja.com/)

Negro de Anglona – trendy restaurant and bar (http://www.negrodeanglona.com/)

Le Marquis – trendy restaurant and bar, its v cool and the decor is inspired by the Marquis de Sade (it´s tasteful though). If you want a clearer idea try google images (http://www.lemarquis.es/)

Ramses – stunning restaurant, bistro and bar (http://www.ramseslife.com/home.html)

Buddha del Mar – this place is gorgeous but difficult to get to unless you drive

If none of these appeal to you, give me clearer specifications and I´ll suggest a few other places. Let me know if you´re ever in London, Dubai, Mumbai or Madrid again!

Que os lo paseis genial!

Un abrazo,

Málika

Hi Tim, Loved meeting you and chatting at Blog World Expo. Your insights and advice during your keynote with Mike Shinoda were awesome. I also loved that the two of you came to class and sat in sessions with the rest of us bloggers. I think I was in at least 2 other classes with you. You are a down-to-earth cool guy who hasn’t forgotten that success doesn’t change who you are. Even though you wrote a book, at the same time I was writing my “Quitting is Everything!” and stole my spot in the publishing world =-), I’m so honored to have had a chance to spend a few minutes with you! Keep inspiring and helping those stuck in corporate jobs they hate, find the courage to step out and live more passionate lives. Would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the opportunity to collaborate if it ever presents itself. Let me know how I can ever help you! BEST to YOU!

Hello Tim,

I am a big fan of your book. So much so me and my girlfriend decided to start our own vitamin suppliment company following all the steps we found in your book. Currently we have had some problems with our formula. It seems that it works great in the begining ( Providing Excellent!!Energy,Endurance and Muscle Reccovery) but after long term use it does not have the same effect and we are trying to find a way to get clinical trials done for a low price to see how we might improve our product so we can divorce our current 9-5’s and have more room for travel, family and a more satisfying life style like yourself.

Could you please assist???
