Presenting “Mastering the Low-Information Diet” at the Web 2.0 Exposition in SF (Scott Beale / Laughing Squid)

I presented last Sunday at the Ignite portion of the huge Web 2.0 Expo, where two groups of speakers each gave 5-minute presentations of 20 slides. Each slide was set to auto-advance after 15 seconds. There was free beer, it was fun, and — unbenownst to me — attendees voted on their favorite presentation in each group via cell phone using Mozes. I won the first heat and was informed that I would be speaking at the keynote today in front of 3,000 people! Other keynote presenters included Jeff Bezos and Eric Schmidt.
I’ll be covering “Mastering the Low-Information Diet” in great depth on May 9th, when my manifesto on the same topic will be published through Seth Godin’s ChangeThis. I just learned that most bookstores in the CA bay area have understocked my book (which launches next Tues.), planning to have only 1 or 2 copies in stock! This is a disaster, as there is already demand and people will need to wait up a week for reorders to arrive, killing the book’s first week of sales.
This first week is CRITICAL for bestseller lists, both local and national. Pre-orders online are equally important, as all pre-orders count for the first week’s national sales.

That’s unfortunate about the pre-orders. Regardless, you’ve got a great book. I’m sure it will still sell. My advance copy arrived on Monday and I’m about 2/3 through it. It’s given me a lot to think about and I plan on writing an in depth review for my blog.

Jeff, the books for those at SXSW who got their requests in on time shipped out earlier this week (I only saw the book for the first time late last week!), so you should have them next week. That said, if you can order a copy on Amazon for your closest workaholic friend or family member, that’d be awesome!
Marcie, the book should be available nationwide at most booksellers, but I’d encourage you to preorder to avoid the stocking issue mentioned in the post. Barnes and Noble should be able to get it quickly, as should other bookstores that use major distributors.

Tim, Love the book! My husband and I have been learning ballroom dancing for 8 months. Until now, we’ve been afraid to try tango, but after seeing your video clip, we’re up for it. I’m a stay-at-home mom of 3 and have suffered from analysis-paralysis on most everything, but no longer. Thanks for all of your encouragement. One quick question. At the end of the book when you mention Bonus Chapters and using passwords hidden in the book…what does that mean? Maybe I was reading the book too fast or maybe it’s my lack of tech lingo, but I’m not sure how I’m missed the passwords. My nine-year-old autistic son really wants to learn languages (a great obsession to have) but we can’t seem to find a program to help him, even though I was a Spanish major in my former life. I searched the fourhour website and couldn’t find anything there, so I thought I’d go straight to the source and ask you, the author. Thanks!

I love what you have done with this book from top to bottom. It has helped me accept outsourcing my life and work. I now enjoy more time to “think”. I’m to top it all off I am actually getting more done with less work. I have fired my headaches and my company is more profitable. Now I’m on to more automatable businesses. I’m sure as my time and cash producing assets continues to grow we’ll run into to each other in some country. Until then, keep up the fantastic work!

There’s a web tool inspired by the low info diet. It’s called Blinkdash, and it’s for people who want a start page that gives them the quickest possible access to wherever they want to go, unlike many other start pages which distract users with widgets and headlines.
